Phil Collingsworth studied trumpet at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, completing dual majors in trumpet performance and music education. Kim attended Union Bible College, where she arranged music for the school’s touring groups. When the Collingsworth Family plays — Phil on trumpet, Kim at the piano, daughters Brooklyn and Courtney on violin, voices that trace back to a church camp in Petersburg, Michigan in 1986 — that preparation is not incidental. It is audible.
About the Show
The family brings their Songs of Hope Spring 2027 tour to Elmira on Tuesday, March 30, with dates that have moved through Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Indiana, and Arkansas earlier in the spring and continue through April. The evening is built around “powerful harmonies, heartfelt worship moments, and fresh arrangements” of the family’s most beloved songs, with Phil’s trumpet solos woven through a program designed to “encourage and inspire audiences across the country.” At two hours and 30 minutes, this is a full concert ministry, not a brief set. The show is all ages.
The Collingsworth Family transitioned to full-time performance in January 2000 and has been building a discography since. Albums including God Is Faithful (2006), We Still Believe (2007), and Answer (2009) established their recording voice before Part of the Family (2011) brought them into the Billboard Christian Albums Top Ten. The Lord Is Good and Hymns from Home charted simultaneously in fall 2013; That Day Is Coming (2015) earned a second Top Ten. In April 2021, the group signed with Gaither Music Group, distributed internationally through Universal Music Group/Capitol Christian, and they now appear regularly on the syndicated Gaither Gospel Hour. Their live work has taken them to the Brooklyn Tabernacle, the Billy Graham Training Center, and Shadow Mountain Community Church. What the Songs of Hope tour promises, in the family’s own framing, is “excitement, spiritual anointing, family-emphasis and musical excellence,” a phrase that earns its weight when you consider a family of six has been making this music together for the better part of four decades.
