Uptown at Universal Preservation Hall | September 26, 2026

By Meg Andersen · July 23, 2026

If your Motown memories are all about velvet suits and matching footwork, Uptown will confirm your instincts — then update them. The New York City vocal group brings “A Celebration of Motown & Soul” to Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, September 26, working a catalog that runs from Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder to Bruno Mars without letting the energy drop.

About the Show

The six-member ensemble (Ali, Bradford, Derrick, Jonathan, Alfred, and Joel) tours under the tagline “Old School Melodies, New Fresh Feel,” and the set delivers on that balance. Material comes from across the soul and R&B catalog: The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Jackie Wilson, The Spinners, The Four Tops, Al Green, Earth Wind & Fire, and Prince, alongside contemporary pop and soul including Bruno Mars. The show doesn’t hinge on a single front person; every member is a lead soloist, and each gets a moment out front before the group pulls back together for wall-to-wall ensemble choreography. Multiple presenters have described the show as accessible across musical eras, which tracks: a set that moves between classic Motown and contemporary pop without losing the room tends to end up at performing arts theaters rather than club stages.

The group has been running a full national schedule in 2026, with a stop at Resorts Atlantic City in August before the Saratoga Springs date and two performances in Florida in December. Cissy Segall Davis of Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston described the show as “totally engaging, highly professional and thoroughly entertaining” — which reads like standard venue copy right up until you realize she’s just accurately describing it.

Venue & Logistics

The Capital Region has no shortage of performing arts spaces, but Universal Preservation Hall at 25 Washington Street is a good reason to make the trip to Saratoga Springs. The 1,100-capacity theater handles classical programming and touring acts equally well, and the acoustics favor vocal performance. For a production built around lead soloists and choreography, it’s a room that works in the show’s favor. Doors time was not listed in available sources; show time is 7:30 p.m.
