Before Living Colour, before “Cult of Personality,” before the film role in Platoon and the Grammy wins that followed — Corey Glover was a kid in the back seat of his parents’ car, letting soul music work its way in. The Soul Experience is his way of saying what that music meant, and what it still means, in the language he knows best.
About the Show
Glover, a Brooklyn native who joined Living Colour in 1985, is one of the most recognized voices in American rock. Billboard magazine placed him on its list of the 50 Greatest Lead Singers of All Time. The Soul Experience is Glover asking what that voice sounds like against a different backdrop — the soul and R&B music that first shaped it, before the guitars came in. He is backed by a rotating ensemble of session musicians with credits alongside R&B legends including Sam Moore, Mavis Staples, Bettye LaVette, and Solomon Burke. Critics have described his vocal delivery as having “architectural clarity: pliable, explosive, steeped in soul.” In a room with 150 seats, those words land differently.
The setlist moves across soul classics, overlooked B-sides, and selections from his solo catalog and Living Colour’s output. Past performances have brought in covers of Leonard Cohen, Prince, and Tracy Chapman. “We don’t just do Living Colour songs,” Glover has said. “We mess around and throw other things into the mix.” The project originated as a small benefit collaboration; the initial response was strong enough to keep it going. Glover’s stated goal is uncomplicated: “In a world full of reasons to be angry or sad, how about we just have a good time?”
Living Colour is currently working on new material, their first album since Shade (2018). The Soul Experience is a different project entirely. It brings Glover back to the music he grew up on, in a room built for listening close.
Venue & Logistics
The Falcon is a Hudson Valley jazz and blues club at 1348 Route 9W in Marlboro. Glover has made it a consistent stop for The Soul Experience, returning since at least March 2024. Dinner service begins at 5:30 p.m.; music starts at 7:30 p.m. No reservations required.
