Julia Bailen was standing roadside, shaken, when a first responder recognized her from the band’s work. Somewhere in the unsteady aftermath of a hit-and-run, she found the lyric that would become the foundation of a song: the freedom of jumping into the deep end and discovering you can swim. That line became “SWIM!!!,” the title track of Bailen’s third full-length, and now lends its name to the tour bringing the New York City sibling trio to The Falcon in Marlboro on Saturday, October 17.
About the Show
Bailen is Julia on vocals and guitar, Daniel on bass, and David on drums, siblings who grew up in New York City in a household where, as their biography puts it, Rock & Roll and Brahms coexisted naturally. Their parents were freelance classical musicians, and the twins, Daniel and David, spent part of their childhood as soloists in the Metropolitan Opera’s children’s chorus. What you hear in the band’s three-part harmonies is the result of a lifetime of proximity: what the venue’s listing calls “blood harmony by the bushel,” and what the music press describes as “beautifully executed,” vocal interplay that reviewers have compared to Fleet Foxes and The Staves.
SWIM!!!, releasing September 25 and arriving just weeks before this show, is the trio’s first independent release after two albums on Fantasy/Concord Records. Thrilled to Be Here arrived in 2019, when Rolling Stone compared the debut to CSN, Fleetwood Mac, TLC, and Haim; Tired Hearts followed in 2023. The new record was produced with Jake Sinclair (Panic! At The Disco), Riccardo Damian (Sampha), and Chris Tabron (The Strokes). The press frames the shift plainly: after the major-label run, Bailen is charting its own course. The “SWIM!!! At Your Own Risk Tour” runs from August through November across North America, and the Falcon date places them in the Hudson Valley just weeks after the album drops.

The Falcon, at 1348 Route 9W in Marlboro, holds 150 people, and for a band whose catalog has crossed 50 million streams, that is the kind of room that signals intentionality. The show is listed as a split bill. The venue operates on a donation model, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the performers. There are no reservations; seating is unreserved bar and table-waitlist. Dining begins at 5:30 p.m.; music starts at 7:30 p.m.
