Australian metalcore outfit Alpha Wolf does not ease you into the show — they start at peak intensity and see how far they can push it from there. On Wednesday, May 20, they bring the Let It Rip USA Tour to Empire Live in downtown Albany, and if you have been waiting for a room-filling metalcore night in the Capital Region this spring, this is the one.
About Alpha Wolf
Alpha Wolf formed in 2013 in Burnie, Tasmania, and eventually relocated to Melbourne, where they built a following before breaking through internationally. Their sound — metalcore seasoned with nu-metal grooves, intense breakdowns, and the kind of raw emotion that makes a standing-room floor move involuntarily — draws frequent comparisons to Knocked Loose and Wage War. Vocalist Lochie Keogh joined the band in 2018 and has been the central voice of their recent catalog.
Their 2020 album A Quiet Place to Die hit #6 on the ARIA chart in Australia. Their 2024 follow-up Half Living Things pushed further — Distorted Sound gave it an 8/10 and called it their most ambitious record yet, singling out “Akudama” as “one of the best songs to come out of the nu-metal genre in years.” The record also features Ice-T on “Sucks 2 Suck,” a collaboration that lands exactly as well as you’d expect. Alpha Wolf arrives in Albany midway through a 24-date North American run that also includes festival appearances at Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach and Sonic Temple in Columbus.
Support comes from Gideon, Mugshot, and Resolve.
