Deep Purple at Place Bell | August 17, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · July 19, 2026

Deep Purple’s 24th studio album, SPLAT!, arrived July 3 with Ian Gillan describing the new material as “compatible with Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy” — the band’s foundational 1969–1973 catalogue. For a band with nearly six decades of continuous activity behind it, the decision to reach back toward that period rather than chase something unfamiliar reads either as the brashest move available or simply the most honest one.

About the Show

The North American leg brings Kansas along as support on all dates, with Jefferson Starship joining for select shows including this Laval stop. The bill connects three generations of classic rock tradition: Deep Purple, whose early–’70s live document Made in Japan remains a foundational recording of the form; Kansas, whose “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind” (4x Platinum) have never entirely left classic-rock radio, with “Carry On Wayward Son” getting a visibility boost from its recent placement in Amazon Prime’s crime thriller Reacher; and Jefferson Starship, completing an evening that covers roughly five decades of rock history inside a single arena.

The current Deep Purple lineup — Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey, and guitarist Simon McBride (who joined in 2022 following Steve Morse’s departure) — has maintained creative momentum rather than coasting on the legacy. Producer Bob Ezrin, known for his work with KISS, Pink Floyd, and Lou Reed, has helmed six consecutive Deep Purple records dating back to 2013’s Now What?!, a partnership that gives the band’s recent material more internal consistency than their long-running contemporaries often manage. SPLAT! is a 13-track record built around a concept Gillan describes as “the metamorphosis of humanity into a metaphysical state, our next incarnation.” The band is supporting it with approximately 86 shows across 28 countries, spanning three continents through December 2026. Gillan has also disclosed he performs with only 30 percent vision. Deep Purple were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Kansas founding members Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope rejoined the current lineup for encore performances at a September 2025 homecoming concert, the first time either had performed with the band in decades. Jefferson Starship’s Find Your Way Back Meet & Greet is available separately, no event ticket required.
