Here is the thing about Funk ’n Waffles: a 200-person room in Armory Square is exactly where you want to catch a blues guitarist before the rest of the world figures it out. If you have not been tracking D.K. Harrell yet, Thursday, June 25 is your corrective.
Doors are at 7:00 PM, show starts at 8:00 PM. This is an 18+ event.
About D.K. Harrell
D.K. Harrell — born D’Kieran Harrell in Ruston, Louisiana in 1998 — found blues at age two through B.B. King, got his first guitar at twelve, and was writing original material by sixteen. In 2019, he was at the B.B. King Symposium in Indianola, Mississippi, playing one of Lucille’s signature guitars backed by King’s own touring band. By 2022, he had finished third out of more than 200 acts at the International Blues Challenge, won the Jus Blues B.B. King / King of the Blues Award for preserving traditional blues heritage, and made his international debut in Brazil. His 2023 debut album The Right Man earned him the Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist from The Blues Foundation.
Last year he signed to Alligator Records and released Talkin’ Heavy — twelve original songs that Blues Music Magazine editor Art Tipaldi called a strong contender for 2025 Contemporary Blues Album of the Year. Critics have zeroed in on his “stinging, single-note string bending” and “street-smart singing style.” He has shared stages with Gary Clark Jr., Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. He is 27 years old and already in a different category.
Catching him in a room this size is the kind of thing you tell people about later.
