The songs Dolly Parton left behind have a way of finding people at the wrong time in the right way: “Jolene” materializing at midnight when you’re the kind of tired that doesn’t have a name, “I Will Always Love You” surfacing at a wedding you swore wouldn’t affect you, “9 to 5” on the radio somewhere between where you are and where you’d rather be. She wrote for the moment of recognition, the lyric that catches you sideways and makes you realize you weren’t carrying it alone. Since Parton’s passing in August 2026, tribute performances have been filling rooms across the country, and those rooms have not been empty.
About the Show
A Dolly Parton Tribute comes to the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater in Syracuse on Saturday, June 19, 2027. The production is built around a live band working through her greatest hits, “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You,” inside a full theatrical frame: costumes, staging, and the vocal commitment that separates a genuine tribute from a cover-band exercise. Touring descriptions characterize the experience as “authentic country styling, powerhouse vocals, dazzling costumes, and Southern charm,” an evening shaped around Parton’s music and persona as occasion rather than nostalgia.
The songs give the performers a lot to work with. “Jolene” runs on jealousy and dread and never lets the tension break. “9 to 5” turned a workplace complaint into something people were still singing forty years later. “I Will Always Love You” sounds like it was written for the exact moment when words stop being enough. In the days immediately after Parton’s passing, Tyson Ritter of the All-American Rejects paused his band’s set at the New York State Fair to honor her, celebrating her “unmatched spirit, songwriting genius, and lifelong generosity.” His doing so from the middle of a pop-rock set tells you something about how far the catalog traveled.
The Parton estate has announced Dollyfest 2027, a tribute festival planned across Nashville and London, choosing live celebration over conventional memorial, a format organizers say reflects what Parton herself would have preferred, as the festival was originally conceived as her 80th birthday celebration.
