About Goose
Built around Rick Mitarotonda’s songwriting and guitar, with Peter Anspach on keys and guitar, Trevor Weekz on bass, and Cotter Ellis behind the kit, Goose plays a brand of jam-rock that pulls from synth-pop, prog, folk, and electronic music without ever losing the thread of an actual song. Ellis is the newest piece — his first studio sessions with the band landed in the last year — and the live recordings circulate obsessively for a reason: no two nights are the same. The hooks are real, the melodies land, and the improvisation has somewhere to go.
Friday’s show comes with serious support. The Disco Biscuits — the Philadelphia trance-fusion crew who helped write the modern jam playbook — open the July 3 date, making this a deep, multi-generational night of improvisational music. The run continues July 4 with a second Goose night, this time with moe. opening, so plan accordingly if one show won’t cut it.
The Venue
SPAC doesn’t need an introduction if you’ve spent any time in the Capital Region. The amphitheater in Saratoga Spa State Park has hosted the genre’s biggest names for decades, and the lawn remains one of the best deals in live music — bring a blanket, get there early, and give yourself extra time, because parking is always a trek.
