Resurrection: A Journey Tribute played the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda on September 25 and returned the following night for a second show. Now the same theater has them booked again for a Saturday night on November 28. Two nights in September, a third in late November — the kind of scheduling that happens when a tribute act outdraws expectations rather than just meeting them.
About the Show
Resurrection was founded in Nashville in 2013 by keyboardist Vic White, who serves as the band’s musical director and brings a specific credential to the project: he saw Journey perform live in 1981 and 1983. What started as a regional act made its first public appearance on March 10, 2014, at Gray’s on Main in Franklin, Tennessee, and sold out a full-length show at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley venue one month later. From there, the band grew into what its booking materials describe as “the gold standard by which all Journey tributes are measured.”
Lead vocalist Bryan Cole joined in 2023, bringing a backstory that is either charming or slightly unsettling depending on how you feel about tribute acts. He received Journey’s Infinity album at age six and, by his own account, learned every nuance of every song on the record. Before joining Resurrection, he fronted Giant at their 25th reunion show in Nashville. Guitarist Steve Sheroan, classically trained at Western Kentucky University, built his approach specifically around Neal Schon’s techniques and nuances. Bassist Trenton “Poptart” Shuler earned his spot in the band the hard way: he stepped in last-minute during a 2021 show in Myrtle Beach when the regular bassist couldn’t travel — and purchased his first bass that same day.
The band has performed at venues including AT&T Park, US Cellular Field, Royal Caribbean International cruises, and Hard Rock Casino. Their live album, Raised on Journey, collects 13 Journey standards from a live performance (their first published recording). Steve Perry and what the band’s materials describe as “Journey purists” have praised Resurrection as the definitive Journey experience. The band has no affiliation with or endorsement from Journey or its members.
Venue & Logistics
The show takes place at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St. in North Tonawanda — a theater-format room well suited to this kind of faithful reconstruction, and part of the western New York circuit that Resurrection has been working steadily. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
