About Grand Funk Railroad

Grand Funk Railroad formed in Flint, Michigan in 1969 and spent the following decade becoming one of the defining rock acts in the country — building a catalog that still holds up in a live room. The hits require no introduction: “We’re an American Band,” “I’m Your Captain / Closer to Home,” “The Loco-Motion,” “Some Kind of Wonderful.” Founding members Don Brewer on drums and vocals and Mel Schacher on bass are still at the core of the lineup, joined by Max Carl on lead vocals, Mark Chatfield on guitar, and Tim Cashion on keyboards. May 2 is part of the 2026 Shinin’ On Tour — 57 years in and they still tour roughly 40 dates a year.
