Harvest & Rust built their following on a commitment that most tribute acts avoid: acoustic, unplugged performance, with no two shows alike, betting that Neil Young’s guitar tone and harmonica phrasing can carry a room on nuance alone. That’s a real gamble. Those are not sounds that survive a careless approximation, and from the evidence of venues that keep having them back, the quintet has largely won it. They bring that case to The Stationery Factory in Dalton, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 26.
About the Show
The band draws from over 70 Neil Young compositions, moving across material that stretches from the acoustic intimacy of his “Harvest” era to the raw energy of “Rust Never Sleeps” — his solo recordings, his Buffalo Springfield years, and his time with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Their format is deliberately stripped down: what their materials describe as “honesty, nuance, and respect for the original music.” Setlists shift from night to night, mirroring Young’s own approach to spontaneity. The set runs approximately two hours.
The instrumentation covers the range his catalog demands: Garrett Lechowski on lead vocals, guitars, piano, harmonica, and banjitar; Matt Cahill on guitars, piano, and backing vocals; Andy Gordon on pedal steel; John Kiernan on drums; Jim Reynolds on bass. The core five augment with a wider circle of regional players depending on the date.
The endorsements are specific. Tor Krautter, Artistic Director of Berkshire Theatre Group and The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, summed it up in December 2025: “the complete package — a solid professional band that performs the music of Neil Young with the accuracy and passion it deserves.” Todd Anderson, host of the Long May You Young podcast and a veteran of more than 50 Neil Young concerts, called their performance “flawless.” Randy Smith, President of Cooperstown Concerts, offered his verdict after their February 2025 show: “Start to finish, Harvest & Rust lived up to their billing as one of the premier Neil Young tribute bands in the Northeast.” The band has completed approximately 100 performances, more than 20 of them sold out, across New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Delaware.

The Stationery Factory’s MainStage is in Dalton, Massachusetts, in Berkshire County — a straightforward drive west for Capital Region audiences. Doors at 7:00 p.m., show at 8:00 p.m. The event is all ages.
