There is a kind of stillness that only certain artists can command. James Taylor has been finding it for more than five decades — in small clubs, on network television, and in amphitheaters where twenty thousand people go quiet at once because a voice and a guitar are doing something that doesn’t require any more explanation than that.
On Monday, June 29, Taylor brings his All-Star Band to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for what is billed as An Evening with James Taylor and His All-Star Band. Showtime is 7:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now.
About James Taylor
Taylor built his catalog from songs that feel like they have always existed — “Fire and Rain,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Shower the People” — the kind of songs that live in people’s memories alongside their own stories. Whether he wrote them before your time or after, they land the same way: like something that was already true before he put words to it. His All-Star Band is tight in a way that only comes from years of working the same material and still caring about it.
The 2026 tour stretches across roughly 30 North American dates from May through September, including Taylor’s long-standing July Fourth tradition at Tanglewood and stops at Jones Beach and Santa Barbara Bowl, before heading overseas for a European leg that includes the Montreux Jazz Festival. The Saratoga date lands squarely in the middle of a full summer circuit.
The Venue
The Saratoga Performing Arts Center is in its 60th anniversary season — which makes this the kind of summer where the amphitheater itself is worth showing up for, not just the headliners. SPAC holds 25,000 people in total, with just over 5,200 reserved seats under the pavilion and roughly 20,000 more on the lawn. For a show like this, the lawn is where you want to be: the light changes as the set progresses, the pines frame the stage, and Taylor’s voice carries in a way that outdoor rooms were made for.
A few practical notes before you arrive: lawn chairs can be rented in advance through SPAC, and outside chairs are not permitted. Bags must be clear, with a maximum size of 12″×6″×12″ for standard bags or a small clutch no larger than 6″×9″. No outside alcohol is allowed on the grounds.
