John Pizzarelli Trio at Kleinhans Music Hall | April 26, 2026
Here is the kind of Sunday afternoon that justifies the drive to Buffalo: John Pizzarelli Trio, 3:00 PM, in the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans — one of the more intimate setups a concert hall this storied has to offer. You are home by dinner and the show will be in your head for a week.
About John Pizzarelli Trio
John Pizzarelli has spent more than four decades doing something that sounds effortless and absolutely is not: making the Great American Songbook feel like it was written this morning. The Boston Globe tagged him for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz,” and that holds up every time he sits down with a guitar. The Grammy Award-winning guitarist and vocalist brings wit, warmth, and a player’s instinct to material that lesser performers turn into museum exhibits.
This tour is personal. Pizzarelli’s new album, Dear Mr. Bennett, released March 3, 2026 on Green Hill Music, is a tribute to Tony Bennett in what would have been his centennial year — Bennett was born August 3, 1926. The connection runs deep: Pizzarelli’s father, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, accompanied Bennett on recordings including “To My Wonderful One” back in 1960. This is not just another tribute record. It carries a generation of family history behind it.
Onstage with Pizzarelli are bassist Mike Karn and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson — the same trio that recorded the album. Expect the Songbook in full: Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, plus Pizzarelli’s well-documented ear for contemporary songwriters including Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, and the Beatles.
