Jim Thorpe is already worth the drive. When Penn’s Peak has a show on the calendar, the trip pays for itself twice. Live Dead & Brothers rolls into the 1,800-capacity room on Friday, May 1 — doors at 6:00 PM, showtime at 8:00 PM — and this is one of those lineups that actually earns the billing.
About Live Dead & Brothers
This is not a typical tribute act. The concept is specific: recreate the spirit of the era when the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band co-headlined shows from 1969 to 1973, with musicians who have genuine roots in both legacies.
Berry Duane Oakley — son of the late founding Allman Brothers bassist Berry Oakley — anchors the low end. Les Dudek, who played guitar harmonies with Dickey Betts on “Ramblin’ Man” and acoustic guitar on “Jessica” from the 1973 Brothers & Sisters album, brings firsthand ABB history to the stage. Mark Karan (Bob Weir’s RatDog, The Other Ones), Scott Guberman (Phil Lesh & Friends), and Pete Lavezzoli (Oteil Burbridge & Friends) fill out the Dead side of the equation. The Big Gabe also appears on Penn’s Peak’s billing for this date.
Expect deep jams, sweet harmonies, and the Southern-psychedelic spirit of that 1969–1973 window. Built for lifelong devotees and curious newcomers alike.
