Loose Change at Funk ‘n Waffles | April 30, 2026
If you missed Loose Change when they played Funk ‘n Waffles back in March — and a lot of people did, because that show sold out — here is your second chance. The Hamilton College-based jam band is back in Armory Square on Thursday, April 30, and at $13, there is no good reason to let this one slip by again.
About Loose Change
Loose Change describes themselves simply and accurately: a jam band playing Grateful Dead music, rooted in the Central New York scene. Two guitarists, keys, and a tenor saxophone player — a lineup that gives them more tonal range than the average Dead-inspired outfit. They pull from the full spectrum of what made the Grateful Dead interesting: the funk stretches, the country leans, the blues underpinning, the moments where a song takes a turn nobody in the room saw coming.
They have built a regional following the honest way — playing shows up and down the Northeast — and the fact that Funk ‘n Waffles brought them back after a sold-out March booking tells you everything about the kind of room energy they generate. This is improvisational music from a band that takes the Grateful Dead’s approach to live performance seriously, not nostalgia-act covers played straight.
About the Venue
Funk ‘n Waffles sits on South Clinton Street in Armory Square, downtown Syracuse — one of those venues that manages to be a great bar, a solid restaurant, and a consistently good live music room all at once. The intimate room is well-suited to the kind of extended jams Loose Change plays, and the booking calendar keeps live music coming Thursday through Sunday most weeks. If you have never been, the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives has — arrive early if you want to eat before the show.
