Los Blancos play everything: blues, soul, zydeco, outlaw country, Latin, heavy funk, folk. The Syracuse trio has spent more than a decade proving that a roots music melting pot, played with real conviction, doesn’t need a single genre to hold it together. On Saturday, August 29, they bring that catalog to the Middle Ages Loading Dock for a free outdoor show from 4 to 7 p.m.
About the Show
The set is part of the Loading Dock Series at Middle Ages Brewing Co, presented by Visions FCU. All ages, no cover, no tickets required.
Los Blancos describe themselves as “a crew of troubadour craftsmen and kindred souls,” and more than a decade of road work backs it up. At the center is Colin Aberdeen on guitar and vocals — his slide guitar has earned him a reputation on the roots circuit as “a true-blue artisan of the roots,” with plain-spoken vocals that hold their own in any of the band’s many modes. Steven T. Winston anchors the low end on bass and vocals. And drummer Mark Tiffault carries a resume that includes touring stints with John Lee Hooker, The Kingsnakes, and Handy Award winner Carey Bell.
Together, the trio has logged thousands of performances and tens of thousands of miles. Along the way they have shared stages with Little Feat, Los Lobos, Gov’t Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, moe., and Dickey Betts & Great Southern. Their studio catalog includes Just This Once and Cookin’ With The Cats.
Their promotional tagline — “Rockin’ Roots & Rhythms To Fill A Hole In Your Soul” — sounds like an oversell, but their live reputation for “back porch harmony” and an intensity that can’t be denied makes a three-hour free outdoor set feel like exactly the right format for what this band does.
