Michaela Anne opens These Are The Days with a line worth stopping for: “The humdrum is holy.” It is the kind of declaration that sounds modest until you know what it took to get there — two years without a new song, her mother felled by a stroke, a child born into the middle of all of it, and a creative self that had to be rebuilt from scratch.
About the Show
Anne brings that album to Colony Woodstock on Thursday, November 12, as part of a fall headline tour running through the East Coast before it closes at Mercury Lounge in New York City on November 15. These Are The Days is her first fully independent release, on her own label Georgia June Records, funded through a Kickstarter campaign and recorded at a home studio built by her husband and producer Aaron Shafer-Haiss.
The album broke into the Top 20 of the Americana Radio Chart this year, and the reviews suggest something genuinely at stake. The New York Times called her “a singer with all the polish and confidence of a seasoned star.” NPR described her as “an inspiring artist everyone should check out.” Rolling Stone called her a “breakout moment.” The Nashville Scene put it differently, finding in the record “beer-joint fuzz tones and cleaned-up post-collegiate folk-rock” — a description that captures the album’s pull between rawness and craft. The songs draw on Kathleen Edwards, Jackson Browne, Lucinda Williams, The War on Drugs, and Kacey Musgraves as reference points, and cover the territory Anne knows best: motherhood, caregiving, grief, the weight of ordinary days.
She first gained national attention in 2014 with Ease My Mind, which the Times praised for its “plain-spoken songs of romantic regret and small-town longing,” and went on to earn comparisons to Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris with Bright Lights and the Fame in 2016. Desert Dove (2019, Yep Roc) brought acclaim from Billboard, USA Today, and NPR and appearances at Bonnaroo and XPoNential. These Are The Days is her sixth album. It took a two-year silence to get there, and the record carries that weight without collapsing under it.

Colony Woodstock is a 150-person room on Rock City Road — the kind of listening room in the Hudson Valley where a show like this lands differently than it would in a larger hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
