Rory Block at Caffè Lena | July 31, 2026

By Meg Andersen · July 11, 2026

Saratoga Springs in late July means racing crowds, packed restaurants, and the kind of summer energy that can make a night out feel overwhelming. Then you walk into Caffè Lena, and the whole city shifts. On Friday, July 31, this 110-seat room on Phila Street hosts Rory Block — one of the most decorated acoustic blues artists working today, touring behind her 2025 album Heavy On The Blues.

About Rory Block

Block grew up in Greenwich Village, where her father ran a sandal shop that drew folk luminaries including Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix. At 15, she left home to apprentice directly with blues masters Son House, Skip James, and Mississippi John Hurt — learning the tradition in person, at the source. That lineage has run through five decades of work: 36 albums, multiple Blues Music Awards, and a reputation that reaches well past any single genre.

Her 2025 release, Heavy On The Blues on M.C. Records, features duets with Ronnie Earl, Jimmy Vivino, and Joanna Conner. The notices have been strong: Americana Highways called it “one of the best blues albums of 2025,” and Blues Music Magazine wrote, “She just may be the greatest acoustic blues guitarist alive.” The New York Times once called her playing “perfect” and her singing “otherworldly.” In a 110-seat room, all of that lands differently.

About Caffè Lena

Founded in 1960 by Lena Spencer, Caffè Lena is the longest continuously operating folk music venue in the United States. The Library of Congress has called it “An American treasure,” and the GRAMMY Foundation has recognized it for its contributions to American music. Bob Dylan played this stage in 1961, before his first album was out. It holds 110 people — and that intimacy is exactly the point. If you have been sleeping on what the Capital Region has to offer for live music, this room is where to start.
