For a band that has survived member deaths, lineup overhauls, and legal entanglements significant enough to merit mention in their own official biography, naming a 2027 tour after a 1977 album reads as the kind of stubbornness the Outlaws have always projected. The Hurry Sundown Tour, drawn from their third studio album, brings the Tampa-born Southern rock group to Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe on Saturday, March 20 — the third night of a Northeast run that also includes Daryl’s House in Pawling, New York, and Lynn Auditorium in Massachusetts. Formed in 1972 and signed by Clive Davis to Arista Records in spring 1975, the band cut “Green Grass and High Tides” and “There Goes Another Love Song” in their first wave, watched their first three albums go gold or platinum, and earned a reputation as one of the defining acts of the Southern rock era.
About the Show
The current lineup anchors around founding member Henry Paul, who revitalized the band in 2008 and has sustained it since, alongside keyboardist Dave Robbins, bassist Randy Threet, guitarist Jeff Aulich, and others. The catalog stretches from the 1975 debut through 2020’s Dixie Highway, and performances have been described as running two-plus hours through it — the band touring under the “Florida Guitar Army” name and still carrying the material that made that nickname stick. Pat Travers Band is the special guest. Travers, the Canadian hard rock guitarist who built his name through records like Heat in the Street (1979) and the live release Crash and Burn (1980), reached his commercial peak in roughly the same era as the Outlaws and adds a second guitar-forward act to a bill that earns its runtime.
Venue & Logistics
Penn’s Peak occupies a ridge above the Lehigh Gorge in the Pocono Mountains, which puts it technically in Pennsylvania but close enough to the Hudson Valley corridor to draw from upstate New York regularly. For a band that spent its commercial peak sharing bills with the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the 1,800-capacity room is a legitimate fit: intimate enough that the three-guitar attack registers as an event, large enough to let the sound build. Showtime is 8:00 p.m.
