The Red Clay Strays occupy a position in American music that the industry hasn’t quite figured out how to explain. The Mobile, Alabama six-piece has won Vocal Group of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards without any meaningful mainstream radio footprint, gone 3x RIAA Platinum-certified while resisting every convenient genre label, and built a touring business around a sound NPR called “a haunting callback to classic outlaw country with a rock ‘n’ roll edge” and Rolling Stone deemed “refreshingly muscular and redemptively soulful.” The Grateful Tour brings them to CMAC in Canandaigua on Thursday, July 29, 2027, with St. Paul & The Broken Bones along as special guest.
About the Show
The tour supports Grateful, the band’s third studio album, released June 7, 2026, on HBYCO Records/RCA Records and produced by Dave Cobb, the Grammy-winning producer behind their RCA debut Made by These Moments, which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Grateful pushes further into spiritual territory than the band’s prior work: the lead single “Demons In Your Choir” is described as “a deeply personal spiritual rumination unlike anything in the Mobile, AL-based rock band’s previous body of work.” Saving Country Music gave the album 8.1 out of 10, writing that “The Red Clay Strays are American music. And most any genre should want to claim them as their own since they immediately up the ante of talent among it.” A separate outlet called it “an urgent, timely record that stands toe to toe with anything coming out of the rock world.”
The six-piece — which describes its sound as blending “fiery Southern rock riffs, tender-hearted soul music, and tried-and-true country crooning” and identifies as Americana rather than country — won the Americana Honors & Awards Emerging Artist of the Year in 2024 before adding the CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year. St. Paul & The Broken Bones join as special guest for the CMAC date. The 2027 Grateful Tour runs 39 shows from January 22 in Raleigh through September 19 in Austin, with stops at Chicago’s Allstate Arena and Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre.
