Two decades in, The Wood Brothers still sound like a band chasing a feeling rather than a formula — Americana, blues, R&B and gospel-tinged folk all knotted together, loose enough to breathe and tight enough to swing. On Saturday, June 20, the Nashville trio brings that restless, deeply human sound to Frog Alley Brewing’s outdoor summer series in downtown Schenectady, and a brewery courtyard on State Street is exactly the kind of room where their songs land hardest.
About The Wood Brothers
Guitarist and singer Oliver Wood and his brother, upright bassist Chris Wood — also a founding member of the jazz-fusion group Medeski Martin & Wood — started the band in 2004, later rounding out the lineup with multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix. They’ve built a reputation as one of the most quietly inventive acts in modern roots music, earning Grammy recognition along the way and a catalog full of road-tested favorites like “Luckiest Man,” “Postcards From Hell” and “Honey Jar.”
Their latest, Puff of Smoke — the band’s ninth studio album, released in August 2025 via their own Honey Jar imprint — leans into the same wry, lived-in songwriting that’s defined them all along. Expect plenty of it in the set, woven through the older material that longtime fans already know by heart.

Frog Alley Brewing has quietly become one of the better summer bookings in the Albany / Capital District. The outdoor concert space sits in the heart of downtown Schenectady, close enough to the city’s restaurants and bars to make an easy night of it, and intimate enough that there’s no bad spot to catch a band that thrives on connection with the crowd.
