Here is something worth circling: Wheatus — the New York alt-rock band behind one of the most internet-resurrected songs of the 2000s — is rolling into The Song & Dance on Friday, May 15, and they are bringing the whole debut album with them.
This is the 25th Anniversary Tour. Every night, Wheatus performs their self-titled debut record front to back, plus audience requests. If you have been waiting for a reason to finally scream every word of “Teenage Dirtbag” in a room full of people who feel exactly the same way, this is your night.
About Wheatus
Twenty-five years on, “Teenage Dirtbag” is somehow bigger than ever. In 2022, the song sparked a social media wave — the #teenagedirtbag hashtag hit over 2 billion views worldwide, with celebrities including Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Mark Ruffalo joining in. The track re-entered the UK Top 40 in 2023. The band followed with a 47-date UK and Ireland tour that came within a handful of tickets of selling out, then played Download Festival 2024 to a crowd of more than 20,000.
Wheatus is a New York band with a three-decade career, fronted by Brendan B Brown on guitar and vocals, with Matthew Milligan on bass, Brandon Ticer on keys, Dustyn Murphy on drums, and backing vocals from Joey Slater and Gabrielle Sterbenz. The debut record also features “A Little Respect” — on this tour you get all of it live, plus whatever the crowd calls out.
Opening the night: violet. (emo) and ghst rnnr (alternative), which makes this more than a nostalgia bill. Doors open at 6:00 PM. This show is 16+ with ID; under 16 is admitted with a parent or legal guardian.
The Venue
The Song & Dance is a 200-capacity bar and music venue at 115 E Jefferson St in downtown Syracuse. Small room, close to the stage — exactly the way a show like this is supposed to feel. When a band is this far into an international anniversary tour and chooses a 200-cap room for their Syracuse stop, that is worth paying attention to.
