The Emo Night club format has been running as a recurring event concept nationally since it originated in Los Angeles in 2014, built on a simple premise: a DJ plays original recordings from the emo and pop-punk catalog of the early 2000s while the crowd sings along at full volume. Photo City Music Hall has made the Rochester version a 2026 fixture, and the December 26 installment closes out the year in the quiet stretch after Christmas, without a themed subtitle or a specific lineup announced at this stage. Given the format, that’s fine.
About the Show
Emo Night – Rochester operates on a premise the ticket listing states without embellishment: “Dust off your favorite band tees, break out the skinny jeans, and get ready to sing your heart out to all the songs you grew up on.” A DJ spins the emo, pop-punk, and post-hardcore tracks that defined the early 2000s: My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Taking Back Sunday, and the deeper cuts that serious fans will recognize. No live performers; the original recordings are the performance, and the room completes it.
This is the December installment of a series that has run multiple times at Photo City in 2026, including a Valentine’s Day “Is For Lovers” edition in February, a live night featuring emo cover band Cut Me Up Genny in May, and a “Homecoming” edition in August. Past editions have featured DJ sets from members of emo-scene acts including A Skylit Drive, If Not For Me, Until I Wake, Vampires Everywhere, and Glasswaves, alongside other contributors from within the scene. No specific lineup or host has been confirmed for the December 26 date. The event is 18+ only; no exceptions are noted, and the no-refunds policy applies.
Venue & Logistics
Photo City Music Hall opened in 2016 in Rochester’s Beechwood neighborhood as an independently owned room, operating without corporate ownership or algorithm-driven booking priorities. The space features a low stage, open floor plan, and clear sightlines, built for closeness to the performance. Management runs a Danley/QSC sound rig and, by their own account, doesn’t cut corners on production. The venue extends beyond its concert calendar to host benefit shows, record releases, screenings, and DJ sets. Located at 543 Atlantic Ave, Rochester, NY; see the Finger Lakes concert calendar for more upcoming area shows. Show begins at 7 p.m.
