Goose’s two-night Independence Day stand at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center arrives at something of an inflection point for the Wilton, Connecticut outfit — a band that spent the better part of a decade building a devoted following through relentless touring and has, in relatively short order, graduated to headlining one of the Northeast’s premier outdoor amphitheaters. The July 4 show is the second night of a back-to-back SPAC engagement; a two-day pass covering both July 3 and 4 is available for those willing to commit to the full run.
About Goose
Formed in 2014 in Wilton, Connecticut, Goose built their reputation show by show, city by city. The four-piece — Rick Mitarotonda on guitar, Peter Anspach on keyboards and guitar, Trevor Weeks on bass, and Cotter Ellis on drums — plays open-ended, improvisational rock that rewards repeated exposure and punishes any assumption that you know what comes next. Their profile expanded considerably after 2020, in part through high-profile appearances alongside Dead & Company, Dave Matthews Band, Trey Anastasio, and Bob Weir — an endorsement-by-association that carries real weight in the jam world.
The SPAC show is part of the “An Evening With Goose” summer tour, running June 13 in Toronto through August 29 in Salt Lake City, with stops along the way at Madison Square Garden, Boston, and Red Rocks. These are serious rooms, and they confirm what most of the jam circuit already knew: Goose is no longer a band on the rise — they’ve arrived. The performances support their 2025 studio releases, Chain Yer Dragon and Everything Must Go. moe. opens the evening.
About the Venue
Albany Med Health System at SPAC, in Saratoga Springs, holds 25,000 — split between 5,200 sheltered seats and a sprawling 20,000-person lawn. For a band like Goose, whose live show is built around communal energy and extended improvisation, the lawn is the point. A July 4 night here has its own particular weight. The venue operates on a clear-bag policy (small bags up to 6″×9″, or clear plastic bags up to 12″×6″×12″); outside chairs are prohibited, with lawn chair rentals available on site. Alcohol is not permitted at Live Nation events. SPAC members receive priority access, preferred parking, and reduced fees.
