Martin Barre spent 43 years as Jethro Tull’s lead guitarist: the man who played the Aqualung riff, voted the 25th-best guitar solo ever in the US and 20th in the UK, and a Grammy Award winner for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. When Tull dissolved in 2011 and Ian Anderson eventually reassembled the band under his own name, Barre was not invited. “I don’t know how Ian’s career is lying or what his plans are,” Barre has said. “I don’t know, and it wouldn’t influence me.” The answer he built is the “Plugged In And Ready!” tour — his own electric band, his own catalog, his own show. It arrives at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 17, 2027.
About the Show
Barre’s own description of the evening is unambiguous: “a powerful new electric live show celebrating the music, energy and guitar work that helped define generations of classic rock.” The set covers “iconic songs from across his career with Jethro Tull alongside fan favourites and deep cuts,” and the production is billed as “loud, soulful and packed with legendary riffs.” The band: Dan Crisp on vocals, Alan Thomson on bass, and TERL Bryant on drums.
The Jim Thorpe date is mid-run in a concentrated Northeast stretch that passes through Homer and Hudson Falls, NY; Sellersville, PA; Sony Hall in New York City; Pawling and Bay Shore, NY; and then Fall River, MA and Derry, NH. For a guitarist whose early years had him sharing bills with Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin, the theater circuit this tour works is deliberately close-range.
Beyond the road history, Barre’s collaborations have included Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, and Gary Moore. He has been direct about what he made during the Tull years: “I played on every one of those albums and I wrote a lot of guitar parts.” The tour also follows the recent release of a two-disc set drawing on 2025 acoustic recordings from Homer, New York and 2024 electric band recordings from Germany’s Woodstock Forever Festival, the latter a preview of what this show delivers.
