Los Straitjackets released Somos Los Straitjackets in September 2025 — their first collection of all-original material in over thirteen years and their fifteenth studio album — and if the gap made the record feel like an event, the music earned it. Produced by Alex Hall, whose credits include JD McPherson and The Cactus Blossoms, the album moves between reverb-soaked surf runs, Merseybeat bounce, swampy grooves, and a touch of Latin sway, all without a lyric. That has always been the Los Straitjackets proposition: hooks so catchy they don’t need words to stick. The Fire Note awarded the record four out of five headphones and described it as proof of “how instrumental rock can evolve without losing its cool.” Glide Magazine welcomed “their long-awaited return.” The band toured North America alongside Nick Lowe this past summer; the September 10 date at The Hangar on the Hudson in Troy arrives after that run ends, a standalone Capital Region show from a band that has played this room before.
About the Show
Founded in Nashville in the late 1980s by Danny Amis and Eddie Angel, Los Straitjackets have spent more than thirty years as the band critics keep calling “the leading practitioners of the lost art of the guitar instrumental.” The combo sound they play — two guitars, bass, and drums — is performed by all four members in Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling masks, drawing from the Ventures, The Shadows, Link Wray, and Dick Dale. Over three decades that approach has produced sixteen albums, thousands of concerts, and dozens of appearances in films and television. In the late 1990s, a chance encounter with Mike Campbell brought them the support slot for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Since 2016, the band has served as Nick Lowe’s touring band, a role that has stretched their range into country twang, vintage pop, and funk grooves while keeping the wordless core intact. Americana UK has called the current lineup “a tight rocking outfit,” which, after thirty-plus years, is the kind of praise that carries weight.
Venue & Logistics
The Hangar on the Hudson sits at 675 River Street in Troy, an outdoor covered event space along the Capital Region’s stretch of the Hudson River. Los Straitjackets have played the room twice before: a Halloween show in 2019 and a return in 2024. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show runs 8 p.m.–11 p.m.
