Nonpoint have been playing loud, socially charged nu-metal for nearly three decades, and they are not slowing down. The Last Word, their eleventh studio album, drops September 18. The Even More… Outta Control Tour rolls into Sherman Theater on Tuesday, August 4 with SOiL, Spineshank, and (hed) p.e. alongside. They did not phone in the supporting cast.
About the Show
The lineup is the selling point: Nonpoint headlines, SOiL holds down direct support, with Spineshank (industrial nü-metal) and (hed) p.e. (G-punk) rounding out the bill. Four bands from the same late-’90s/early-2000s heavy music surge, all still putting in the work. Sherman Theater bills the evening as “crushing riffs, high-energy performances, and a nonstop atmosphere from some of heavy music’s most explosive live acts.” Fair enough.
Nonpoint are heading into August with actual momentum. Lead single “Is It” debuted at No. 1 Most Added at Active Rock radio and has since climbed into the Top 50 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart. Vocalist Elias Soriano on the song: “Did I push too hard? Did I ask too much? It’s that feeling of wondering if doing what you thought was right actually meant hurting the people around you.” On the album overall: “In a world that sometimes wants to put a timestamp on creativity, we’re just getting started.”
The Fort Lauderdale band — Soriano on vocals, Robb Rivera on drums, Rasheed Thomas and Jason Zeilstra on guitar, Adam Woloszyn on bass — hit the Billboard 200 with their 2000 major-label debut Statement. Their 2004 album Recoil brought their cover of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” into heavy rotation, and “Bullet With A Name” has never left the live set.
