About the Show
DeBardi has been performing as Steel Beans since 2006, cycling through roughly 50 bandmates and 13 albums out of Everett, Washington, before settling in 2013 on the solo one-man-band format that now defines the project: electric guitar and acoustic drums played simultaneously while singing, often in a kimono. The earlier iterations ran the full spectrum, from a four-piece psychedelic outfit inspired by Syd Barrett to an eight-piece ensemble with vibraphone, horns, and violin, before he stripped everything back to the one-man technique that became his signature. He cites Keith Moon as his primary drumming influence and Frank Zappa as a subconscious creative model, and the press has landed on a range of descriptions — ferocious lo-fi blues, garage rock, theatrical rock, performance art — that are not mutually exclusive. Live accounts include stand-up comedy, audience interaction, and multiple Red Bulls consumed between songs.
The breakthrough came when “Molotov Cocktail Lounge” went viral on Instagram in October 2022, accumulating more than seven million views and drawing comparisons to the White Stripes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, enough traction to fund a first west coast tour through a GoFundMe campaign that cleared its $7,000 goal. The path to the arena circuit reads like something DeBardi would invent: a November 2022 email from someone claiming to be Jack Black, dismissed as a hoax, confirmed three weeks later through Tenacious D’s official management. Opening slots for Tenacious D (including a June 16 date at the O2 Arena in London) and Tool on North American dates followed. The “Steel Beans is… a Psyop Tour 2026” runs 25-plus cities across North America from August 28 through October 23; Buffalo’s September 8 date arrives early in the route.
