Thirteen years is a long time to keep North American prog fans waiting, but Steve Hackett has spent that interval anything but idle. Solo albums, live releases, and the announcement of The Roaring Waves, a long-awaited collaborative album with Marillion’s Steve Rothery, have filled the years since his last stateside run. The Best of Genesis & Solo Gems tour brings him back in April 2027, with a stop at Buffalo’s UB Center for the Arts on Wednesday, April 28.
About the Show
Hackett was Genesis’s lead guitarist from 1971 to 1977, contributing to five studio albums during the band’s defining progressive era. He issued his first solo record, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975 while still a member of the group, and has been working under his own name consistently since. His last North American run, the 2013 Genesis Revisited tour, culminated at London’s Royal Albert Hall and was released as a live DVD; the 13 years since have produced a string of recordings — including his most recent live album, The Lamb Stands Up Live at the Royal Albert Hall — but no North American dates. He put the intent for this tour plainly: “I’ll be bringing this thrilling new show out in 2027 to celebrate the very best of Genesis including the biggest fan favourites, as well as solo classics.” The touring band is the ensemble he has relied on for years: Nad Sylvan on vocals, Lalle Larsson on keyboards, Jonas Reingold on bass and guitar, Rob Townsend on saxophone, flutes, and keyboards, and Felix Lehrmann on drums. The North American leg spans 16 dates from Atlanta through Québec; Buffalo sits between Akron, Ohio (April 27) and Ithaca (April 29), a stretch that puts the show within reach for fans across the western New York area.
Venue & Logistics
The Mainstage Theatre at UB Center for the Arts is a proper concert hall on the University at Buffalo campus, built for the kind of attentive listening that Hackett’s guitar work rewards. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
