If you have been waiting for the band that makes “Red Dirt Metal” feel like its own weather system, the Gunsmoke Tour is coming to Albany. Texas Hippie Coalition rolls into Empire Underground on Sunday, October 25 at 7:00 PM — and if you have never caught them live, this is a good room to find out what the fuss is about.
About Texas Hippie Coalition
The band from Denison, Texas coined the term “Red Dirt Metal” because Southern rock swagger fused with bone-crushing heavy metal riffs landed somewhere that doesn’t have a clean genre home anywhere else. Led by vocalist Big Dad Ritch — with Corban Vincent and Nevada Romo on guitar, Rado Romo on bass, and JoEY Mandigo on drums — the Coalition has been doing this for two decades. They have logged major festival stages, including Rockstar Mayhem, and built a crowd that travels for exactly this kind of show. Their motto is “Faith Family Freedom.” The live show earns it.
The Gunsmoke Tour is a 17-date US run, and the Albany stop closes out a Northeast cluster: Buffalo on the 23rd, Syracuse on the 24th, Albany on the 25th. If you are within 90 minutes of Pearl Street on a Sunday night in late October, you have very little excuse to sit this one out.
About Empire Underground
Empire Underground opened in the fall of 2021, tucked into the basement of Empire Live at 93 N Pearl St in downtown Albany. It is a club-scale room with a close-quarters feel — the kind of setup that works exactly right for a band this loud. For hard rock and heavy music in the Albany / Capital District, it has become the room that matters. THC plays best when there is nowhere to hide from the sound, and Empire Underground will not let you.
