There is something satisfying about catching a band on the first night of a tour. That Handsome Devil hits Empire Underground in Albany on Thursday, April 30 at 7:30 PM — opening night of their Spring 2026 run before heading to Buffalo, Columbus, Detroit, and deep into the Midwest. That Handsome Devil is a Brooklyn-based six-piece whose sound defies clean genre labels. Rock, funk, and jazz woven together with an experimental edge and a bohemian literary sensibility — their bio evokes a neighborhood where Charles Bukowski hung his hat at a juke joint. It makes more sense when you hear it than when you read about it. Their 2011 album The Heart Goes to Heaven, the Head Goes to Hell is their most recognized work; their latest, 2 For Flinching, dropped October 10, 2025. They are not a band coasting on back catalog.

Empire Underground is an intimate club in downtown Albany — around 300 capacity — which means this show is close. No buffer zone between you and a six-piece working through fresh material on opening night.
