Dive Presents They Are Gutting a Body of Water at The Hangar on the Hudson | May 14, 2026

By Meg Andersen · May 7, 2026

Troy’s River Street is worth the drive on its own, but on Thursday, May 14, it has a very good reason to be your destination. The Hangar on the Hudson — a covered outdoor event space with a capacity of 300, right on the Hudson — is hosting They Are Gutting a Body of Water for the opening night of their May 2026 Northeast run. Doors at 7 PM, show at 8. The show is presented by Dive, the local promoter behind some of the Albany / Capital District‘s best recent bookings.

About They Are Gutting a Body of Water

TAGABOW, as their audience calls them, are a Philadelphia-based shoegaze quartet that Stereogum named “the most important band in modern shoegaze.” That is not a small claim — but spend any time with their catalog and you will understand why. Doug Dulgarian (guitar, vocals, sampler), Emily Lofing (bass), PJ Carroll (guitar), and Ben Opatut (drums) build something out of eviscerating guitars, warped samples, jungle breakbeats, and digital noise that has drawn coverage from Pitchfork, NPR, FADER, and Stereogum.

Their fourth studio album, LOTTO, dropped October 17, 2025 via Julia’s War / Smoking Room / ATO Records — their rawest record to date, tracked live with minimal overdubs. Paramore’s Hayley Williams publicly praised it on social media.

There is a local connection worth flagging: Dulgarian grew up in the Hudson Valley, and TAGABOW’s earliest tapes were recorded in Albany around 2016 and 2017. He also founded the Julia’s War label, home to over 70 projects — including early work by Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, and Feeble Little Horse. This show is practically a homecoming. Live, the band plays floor-level facing inward and incorporates EDM interludes into the set. In a covered outdoor space this size, that kind of immersive setup hits differently.
