Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s 2026 winter tour carries more weight than most anniversary runs. Thirty years after Paul O’Neill — the NYC native who drew from Queen, classical music, and Broadway to imagine a new kind of rock theater — assembled TSO’s founding lineup, the band returns with a reimagined staging of “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” the tour that built the holiday institution. O’Neill died in April 2017; what continues under music director Al Pitrelli is the infrastructure of something genuinely ambitious, arriving at MVP Arena on Thursday, December 17.
About the Show
The full tour name is “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve: The Best of TSO and More,” and the billing tells you exactly what to expect. The first set stages the rock opera itself — a narrative about a runaway who discovers a vaudeville theater on Christmas Eve and has her life transformed by the spirits she encounters there, a concept TSO first adapted for a 1999 Fox Family television movie and has toured in various forms since. It runs with the production hallmarks the band has made its signature: lasers, pyrotechnics, robotic arms carrying musicians above the crowd, a combined rock-orchestra-choir format. The second set draws from three decades of catalog, anchored by songs that have built considerable streaming audiences — “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” ranks as the No. 3 best-selling holiday digital single with more than 300 million streams.
The 2026 run marks 30 years of “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” specifically, which the band is staging in a reimagined production. Music director and lead guitarist Al Pitrelli, who attended Berklee School of Music and played with Alice Cooper, Asia, and Megadeth before joining TSO at the band’s formation, addressed the tour’s pricing directly: “Thirty years in, we never take a single person in that audience for granted. With the economy the way that it is right now, it shouldn’t be a mortgage payment for a family to come out to see us.” The tour covers more than 50 North American cities between November 19 and December 30, with TSO East and TSO West groups running simultaneously.

MVP Arena at 51 South Pearl Street in downtown Albany is the Capital Region‘s main indoor arena — the right room for a show built around a full lighting grid and pyrotechnic clearance. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
