Cleveland’s Tropidelic built its following by refusing to pick a lane: reggae bass lines, hip-hop cadences, funk grooves, rock guitar, and the occasional burst of punk, all folded into a single set. They’re bringing that genre-colliding approach to Buffalo’s Electric City on Friday, January 22, kicking off their 15-city “A New Dawn Tour” with the first show on the schedule.
The tour heads south from Buffalo through Raleigh, Virginia Beach, the Carolinas, Florida, Nashville, and Atlanta before wrapping in Flint, Michigan in February. Opening night tends to have something the later dates don’t: the production is fresh, the set hasn’t settled into road autopilot, and the audience gets a band still running on the energy of day one.
About the Show
The “A New Dawn Tour” follows First Light, the most-streamed album in Tropidelic’s history, and arrives with the band’s most significant production upgrade to date. The six-piece, led by frontman Roads, has spent years building an audience that crosses genre lines: tours alongside The Dirty Heads, 311, and Lupe Fiasco; festival sets at Okeechobee, Beach Life, and Tortuga; multiple nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
What those years on the road have refined is a live show that shifts between reggae grooves, funk rhythms, rock instrumentation, and bursts of punk-rock intensity within a single set. The approach is deliberate — Roads describes exploring feelings more than sounds, following the emotional current wherever it leads. Their shows create an atmosphere where everyone in the audience is encouraged to participate.
For this run, they’ve added the band’s first complete visual and audio production: a dedicated lighting designer, a custom light wall, and a full light ring. The goal, in the band’s own words: a booming bassline, a wall of lights, and a crowd that knows how to have a good time. The band also runs its own Everwild Festival, returning to Thornville, Ohio, August 5–7, 2027. SensaMotion and Palmer Squares open.
Venue & Logistics
Electric City, at 433 Pearl St. in downtown Buffalo, earns its name from genuine local history. In 1896, Buffalo became the first electrified city in America, powered by Nikola Tesla’s vision, and the venue has built its identity around that moment. For a band touring behind a custom light wall and a full visual production, opening a tour called “A New Dawn” in a room named for the moment Buffalo became the first American city powered by electricity is at least a good fit. Electric City is in western New York. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
