W. Chippewa Street on a Monday night in August is already a good reason to be in Buffalo. Add A Thousand Horses bringing their White Flag Down Tour to Rec Room on August 24, and now you’ve got a reason to drive from anywhere in Western New York.
About A Thousand Horses
Nashville’s A Thousand Horses — Michael Hobby on vocals, Bill Satcher on lead guitar, Graham DeLoach on bass, Nathan Sexton on drums, and Adam Browder on guitar — have been building toward this moment for a decade. Their 2015 debut Southernality put them on the map with the platinum-certified single “Smoke” and a string of tours alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jason Aldean, and Darius Rucker. That was the country-rock version of this band.
White Flag Down, their third studio album released February 27, 2026, is a different record. The band put it plainly: “White Flag Down is about walking through the hardest seasons of your life and choosing not to surrender.” Critics heard it as a full pivot — one reviewer called it a crash “headfirst into unapologetic hard rock territory,” drawing ’90s comparisons to Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Foo Fighters. It’s their heaviest album yet: 10 songs, 36 minutes, written through personal upheaval and released independently on Highway Sound Records.
Two tracks stand out heading into the tour. “Dead Man Walking” features a spoken-word monologue from actor Chris Mason (Dune: Prophecy). “Shadows” brings in Underoath frontman Aaron Gillespie. The band has 320-plus million streams and two ACM Award nominations behind them. This is not a band playing it safe.
