Carnivore A.D. plays the kind of crossover that doesn’t apologize for the weight it carries. The name comes loaded: the original Carnivore was Peter Steele’s Brooklyn band before Type O Negative, and Steele died in 2010. This lineup of NYC hardcore and metal veterans earned the right to use it. They wrote new songs. Empire Underground gets the final date of their 2026 run on November 13.
About the Show
The band formed with the endorsement of original Carnivore drummer Louie Beateaux, who put it plainly: “Think of Carnivore AD as a renowned dining establishment where the Chef passed on years ago but the recipes remain and folks still want to dine there instead of cooking the food themselves.” Carnivore was Peter Steele’s Brooklyn crossover band, and the sound he built there, thrash rhythms and hardcore tempos with goth weight accumulating on top, followed him into Type O Negative and never fully left. The current lineup carries its own credentials: Baron Misuraca on vocals and bass, formerly of Sheer Terror; Chuck Lenihan on guitar, formerly of Crumbsuckers; and Joe Cangelosi on drums, who has logged time in Kreator, Whiplash, and Massacre.
Transmutation, their debut EP, was released March 27, 2026 on Apostasy Records and recorded at Soundlodge by Jörg Uken. Five tracks. The band describes the project as “a post armageddon neo barbaric soundscape — a relentless force keeping the primal energy of Carnivore alive.” That lands right. “I Stand Alone” leans into the Type O Negative side of the Steele catalog: darker, heavier, deliberate. “Social Decomposition” hits thrash-core hard. “Mine Is the Hand” moves through varied tempos with the most contemporary feel of the five. One critic described the EP as successfully transporting “the original spirit without becoming a tribute copy.” The 2026 run before Albany included Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo in April and a date in Steenwijk, Netherlands in July. This is the closer. No support acts have been announced.
Venue & Logistics
Empire Underground is on North Pearl Street in downtown Albany. Show time is 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 13. It’s a club room — the right context for a band working this hard to be heard on its own terms. The capital region doesn’t get many shows in this specific lane of metal.
