Courtyard is a Rochester band — which means their Lovin’ Cup show on September 4 is about as close to a hometown night as it gets. The 250-capacity bar-and-restaurant on Park Point Drive is the kind of room where the crowd and the stage feel like one thing, not two. That is the right setting for this band.
About Courtyard
The origin story is very on-brand: a few RIT students met at orientation in 2023, started jamming in a campus courtyard — yes, that is where the name comes from — drew a small crowd, and kept going. The band has been growing ever since, from Brick City Homecoming in 2023 and 2024 to the Unlabeled Music Festival to opening for Sponge’s 30th anniversary tour at Photo City Music Hall in June 2025. That last one is the credential that gets attention.
The music is indie/pop/funk — hook-driven, rhythm-forward, self-produced from day one. Their debut self-titled album (eight tracks, available everywhere since January 2024) is the right starting point. The debut single “11:30” is the entry point. Singles like “$2 Bill” and “Feel” — the latter submitted to the NPR Tiny Desk Contest — show a band that writes for the room but also for repeat plays. Their own tagline is “bops, basements, and the occasional noise complaint.” That about covers it.

Lovin’ Cup is at 300 Park Point Drive in Rochester, right in the neighborhood of the RIT campus. The room holds 250, and it is a full bar-and-restaurant setup — arriving early to grab food before the 8 PM set is a real option, not just a suggestion.
