Twenty years is a long time in post-Idol rock, and Daughtry has spent most of that stretch overachieving the expectations that circuit typically produces. Their 20 Years Unplugged Tour — a 22-date acoustic run that opens October 12 in Troy before moving west — lands at The Vine Showroom inside del Lago Resort & Casino on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 PM. For a band that has spent the better part of two decades filling arenas, a 1,400-capacity room qualifies as genuinely intimate.
About Daughtry
Chris Daughtry emerged from the fifth season of American Idol in 2006 and proceeded to do something almost no one from that circuit manages: build a legitimate, durable rock career on its own terms. The band’s self-titled debut was the fastest-selling rock debut in SoundScan history, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and swept the American Music and Billboard Music award circuits, including Album of the Year. Six studio albums have followed, charting a trajectory from polished post-grunge anthems toward harder, more textured ground. Their most recent release, Shock to the System (Deluxe), consolidates two EPs of recent material alongside live recordings, and current singles continue to place in the top 10 at Billboard Rock Airplay.
The acoustic format is not strictly a nostalgia exercise. The tour concept, as the band describes it, is about pulling the music “into a more raw and immediate space, where the weight of a lyric, the scrape of a guitar string, and the quiet before a chorus can hit as hard as the full-band impact.” Daughtry’s catalog — emotionally direct, vocally demanding — is built for exactly this kind of scrutiny. Buffalo-based singer-songwriter Ryan Perdz, whose debut album Can’t Cry arrives August 14 via Big Machine Rock, opens the show.
Venue Information
The Vine Showroom at del Lago is among the more acoustically serious rooms in the Rochester / Finger Lakes region — the venue has been recognized as a top-rated entertainment destination in the area and makes a credible case for having the best-sounding stage locally. At 1,400 capacity, it places you considerably closer to the music than the amphitheaters and theaters Daughtry typically plays, which is exactly the point of a tour built around lyrics and space. Important: this is a 21-and-over event. ADA seating is available; contact the box office at 315-946-1695. The box office opens at 4 PM on show nights.
