Four of the six members of the Amish Outlaws were raised in the Old Order Amish community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, left during Rumspringa, and promptly started covering Queen, Judas Priest, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg in full Amish attire. Twenty-four years into that career, the band plays The Vine Showroom at del Lago Resort & Casino on Friday, November 13.
About the Show
The Amish Outlaws formed in 2002 at a Pocono Vacation Park “Rock & Roll Hootenanny,” where recently-departed community members discovered their shared appetite for music that their upbringing had forbidden. The group originally went by “Elephant’s Gerald” before founder Eazy Ezekiel reconsidered while doing yard work, decided the Amish heritage was the better story, and rebranded accordingly — leaning into the traditional attire (straw hats, black suspenders) and adopting the tagline “Straight Outta Lancaster,” which collapses the distance between hip-hop and buggy culture about as efficiently as anything can. The current six-piece lineup includes two “honoraryAmish” members alongside the core Amish-raised trio of Ezekiel, Amos Def, and Hezekiah X; their repertoire spans rock, hip-hop, metal, country, and television themes, chosen democratically by the band, with material drawn from Queen, Judas Priest, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg. Press coverage describes their shows as “joyful rebellions, where tradition meets rock and roll in the most unexpected and entertaining way,” and independent outlets credit the act with “exceptional musicianship, humorous stage antics, and high-energy showmanship.” That combination has put them in front of audiences ranging from county fairs and club stages to corporate functions for Nike, McDonald’s, and Red Bull USA. The live set features theatrical choreography, audience participation, and between-song storytelling from band members about their post-Rumspringa experiences; the show functions less as a standard cover set and more as a deliberate celebration of music as something that was, for several of them, once forbidden entirely. The del Lago date is the second stop of a two-night New York run; they play Daryl’s House in Pawling the night before.
Venue & Logistics
The Vine Showroom at del Lago Resort & Casino is in Waterloo, in the Finger Lakes region. The venue has been voted Gold for Best Night Club in the Finger Lakes and describes itself as “acoustically superior to any other entertainment site in the area.” This is a 21-and-over event. The show starts at 8:00 p.m.; the box office is open on show nights from 4 p.m.–8 p.m.
