Tribute bands live and die on the question of proximity — how close did anyone in this room actually get to the original? For Double Vision: The Foreigner Experience, the answer is closer than most. Bassist A.D. Zimmer spent a decade on the road with Foreigner’s original frontman Lou Gramm, which places this six-piece ensemble in a category of its own among acts honoring the catalog that gave classic rock “Hot Blooded,” “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and the arena-filling anthem that lent the band its name.
About the Show
Double Vision returns to Penn’s Peak on Friday, January 29, with a set covering Foreigner’s Billboard-charting material from the 1970s and 1980s that includes “Juke Box Hero,” “Hot Blooded,” “Cold As Ice,” “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Urgent,” “Head Games,” and “Feels Like the First Time,” among others. Foreigner, the British-American rock band formed in New York City in 1976, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with more than 80 million records sold worldwide.
What sets Double Vision apart on the tribute circuit is partly pedigree: Zimmer’s decade alongside Lou Gramm is not the kind of credential a band invents. Grammy-winning engineer Peter Moshay, whose credits include Hall & Oates, Barbra Streisand, and B.B. King, has called the band “the benchmark of tribute bands, they nail Foreigner like I’ve never heard before.” The group has also released a self-titled debut album of original melodic rock via Frontiers Music, reportedly one of the first tribute acts to secure a record deal.
This is not their first Penn’s Peak booking, either. A March 2021 show sold out; they were back in January 2022. Hudson Valley audiences may also remember their 2021 performance at Daryl Hall’s Daryl’s House Club in Pawling, which was livestreamed globally.
