Eight Foot Manchild at Sherman Theater | August 28, 2026

By Meg Andersen · August 6, 2026

Eight Foot Manchild describes itself as “the world’s first and therefore best DOOMBRASS band,” and that is not posturing — it is a genre description. The Medford, Massachusetts five-piece has spent over two decades building a sound around a single radical premise: no bass guitar. The tuba handles the low end. All three horns (tuba, trombone, baritone saxophone) run through piezo pickups and effects processors, generating layers, drones, and evolving transitions that most bands would build with a wall of guitar pedals. The result is groove-heavy, fuzzed-out stoner metal with funk, prog, and occasional hip-hop woven through, drawing creative inspiration from surrealism and Godzilla films. They bring it to Sherman Showcase in Stroudsburg on Friday, August 28.

About the Show

The band formed in 2005 when Berklee College students Dylan Foley (guitar, vocals), Sara Honeywell (trombone, vocals), and Mr. Squirrel (baritone saxophone) started making noise together as an improvisation group. Alison Earnhart joined on tuba shortly after; Tim Winslow rounds out the current lineup on drums. Eight Foot Manchild has been sporadically active since those early years but recently reformed with a renewed commitment to new material. Their second EP, Shrine of the Orange Sunn, landed in July 2023. Rather than following the traditional album-tour cycle, the band releases music in EPs and singles distributed over several months. Some of that output has been explicitly charitable: both the Who Hash EP and the “Born Invincible” single were released as charity projects.

The 2026 touring stretch has included Brighton Music Hall in Allston (July 11) and Spirit Hotel in Medford (August 9), with Stroudsburg next on the calendar. Support for this date comes from We Are Space Horses, a power trio writing “spacey rock music that we can feel good about,” and Filthtraction, a Stroudsburg-based band the venue calls “Stroudsburg’s pride and joy” for their high-energy blend of punk and industrial.
