Detroit’s Mac Saturn is built for a room like Funk ‘n Waffles — a five-piece that plays with the kind of loose, soulful swagger that gets better the closer you are to the stage. They’re coming through Syracuse on Tuesday, June 16 as part of the Bound South Spring Tour, and in a 200-capacity room on South Clinton Street, you are going to feel every bit of it.
About Mac Saturn
Mac Saturn has been doing this the right way for over a decade — frontman Carson Macc and guitarist Nick Barone have been playing together that long, and it shows in how the band moves as a unit on stage. The Detroit five-piece blends Motown-infused grooves with rock-and-roll energy, the kind of sound that was built for sweaty small rooms and late nights. Their 2024 full-length Hard to Sell, recorded at Detroit’s Rust Belt Studios, is the band at their most focused — and “Mr. Cadillac” has found an audience well beyond the Midwest.
They reformed as the original five-piece after stepping back to regroup, and by every account they came back tighter. Current single “Takes Time” is the latest thing out, and the Bound South Spring Tour is why they’re pointed at Syracuse this June.
About the Venue
Funk ‘n Waffles is one of those Central NY venues that gets everything right: good sound in a small room, actual food on the menu, and a calendar that reflects what’s actually happening in live music. The tagline — “Get Down Eat Up!” — tells you the vibe before you even walk in. National touring acts come through alongside locals, and the crowd that shows up knows the difference. It’s on South Clinton Street in downtown Syracuse, easy to find, harder to forget.
Doors are at 7:00 PM — in a 200-person room, showing up close to showtime means watching from behind taller people. Get there early, grab something to eat, and stake out a spot you actually like.
