Popa Chubby at Daryl’s House | January 22, 2027

By Marc Delacroix · September 20, 2026

Ted Horowitz spent his early twenties playing guitar behind Richard Hell’s Voidoids on the CBGB’s circuit, an unusual origin story for a bluesman and, in retrospect, exactly the right one. Under the name Popa Chubby, the Bronx-born guitarist has spent more than 30 years insisting that the distance between punk and the blues was always smaller than the people who sorted them into separate bins wanted to believe. He puts his own formula bluntly: “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson.” He plays Daryl’s House in Pawling on Friday, January 22, 2027.

About the Show

The most immediate occasion is I Love Freddie King, the tribute album Horowitz released in March 2025 to the Texas Cannonball. It is the kind of project that could go either direction: a respectful catalog exercise, or a live argument for why Freddie King still matters. The guest list suggests he was aiming for the latter. Joe Bonamassa, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Mike Zito, Eric Gales, and Albert Castiglia all appear. The lead single, “I’m Going Down” with Bonamassa, was described at the time as “an incendiary guitar tour de force.” No support act is listed for the Pawling date. The show is all ages.

Horowitz’s career traces a path worth knowing. He won a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON radio in 1992, earning New Artist of the Year and an opening slot at the Long Beach Blues Festival, before his Sony/OKeh debut, Booty and the Beast, arrived in 1995. Subsequent records followed on Blind Pig Records and Provogue. Through the ’90s, he played more than 200 club dates a year, a pace that doesn’t produce polish so much as it builds stamina and instinct. Current coverage describes him as “one of the genre’s most popular figures,” with a fanbase that extends internationally.

Venue & Logistics

Daryl’s House is a 300-capacity club on Route 22 in Pawling, in the Hudson Valley. The room suits a guitarist who built his following night by night on the club circuit. Popa Chubby has played here before (documented shows in 2020, 2021, and 2023), so this is a room that knows him. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.; the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
