The Rascals: 60th Anniversary at Riviera Theatre | March 6, 2027

By Marc Delacroix · August 2, 2026

Felix Cavaliere once described his philosophy for live performance as chasing “that memory nerve” — the moment when a familiar song reconnects a room to something it forgot it still knew. The Rascals’ 60th Anniversary Tour, featuring co-founders Cavaliere and Gene Cornish, arrives at the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda on Saturday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m., and sixty years of hall-of-fame catalog argue for it more honestly than any anniversary marketing could.

About the Show

The Rascals formed in 1965 as the Young Rascals, signed to Atlantic Records as one of the first white bands on the legendary R&B label — the result of manager Sid Bernstein putting “The Rascals are Coming!” on the Shea Stadium scoreboard during the Beatles’ concert, generating enough buzz to land a deal. What the band did with it: 17 Top 20 hits, with three reaching number one. “Good Lovin’” in 1966, “Groovin’” in 1967, “People Got to Be Free” in 1968. AllMusic characterized their peak-era output as fusing “the soulful passion of R&B, the tough, swaggering sound of garage rock, the chops of a top-notch show band, and a sense of musical adventure that borrowed from pop, jazz, funk, gospel, and world music.” The group is widely considered the best blue-eyed soul outfit of the 1960s and holds inductions in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1997), the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and the Songwriter Hall of Fame.

The 60th anniversary run reunites Cavaliere with co-founder Cornish for a multi-state tour spanning the Northeast, California, Germany, and additional dates. Cavaliere has kept busy outside the anniversary billing: a 2013 Broadway production, “The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream” (co-written by Steven Van Zandt), brought all four original members back together; Cavaliere described that reunion as a time when “the band got along famously” and “it really sounded like a band again.” He has since published a memoir, “Memoir of a Rascal,” and released a 10-track solo album, “Then and Now,” in September 2023. On the reason for the tour, Cavaliere has put it plainly: “We’re so grateful for the fans, this is for them.” Cornish has said: “This gives us another chance to play together and do it for the fans.”
