Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox built its entire premise on a single, defensible observation: most contemporary pop songs are one reharmonization away from sounding like something a 1940s orchestra might have recorded. Working out of a basement in Queens, Bradlee began staging that proof through YouTube videos, running current hits through the filters of swing, big band, soul, ragtime, and doo-wop — and discovered that the chord structures held up. What began as a small-format experiment became one of the more improbable touring phenomena of the past decade. The Future Is Vintage World Tour brings the ensemble to the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda on Tuesday, April 13, at 8:00 p.m.
About the Show
PMJ operates without a fixed band. The format centers on a rotating cast of singers, dancers, and instrumentalists, the lineup shifting from city to city while the concept stays consistent: take what is familiar, strip out the original production, and rebuild it in an earlier musical vocabulary. On any given night, the material might span 70s rock classics, 80s Britpop staples, today’s chart-toppers, movie themes, and video game soundtracks, each piece reframed through jazz, soul, swing, big band, ragtime, or doo-wop. The group has described the experience as “equal parts time-traveling musical variety show and career-launching talent platform,” which is both a booking strategy and a reasonably accurate description of what happens on stage. Performers come from PMJ’s YouTube channel and the broader community of artists who have passed through Bradlee’s orbit, making each show’s cast a variable rather than a constant.
The Future Is Vintage World Tour is the final extension of a global trek spanning 56 dates across North America, the UK, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand. The ensemble has logged more than a thousand performances across six continents, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Radio City Music Hall, and the Sydney Opera House, and has accumulated over two billion views online. This is not PMJ’s first appearance at the Riviera; a holiday show brought them to North Tonawanda in November 2025.
Venue & Logistics
The Riviera Theatre, at 67 Webster St. in North Tonawanda, hosts the show as part of this western New York run. The venue’s theater layout suits PMJ’s variety-show format well — the production involves choreography and staging that benefit from fixed seating and clear sightlines to the stage, rather than a standing floor. The show is all-ages.
