About Steve Forbert
Forbert grew up in Meridian, Mississippi, moved to New York City in 1976, and built his reputation as one of the folk revival’s most compelling voices — playing CBGB in one room and intimate songwriter showcases the next. His 1979 album Jackrabbit Slim, produced by John Simon of The Band, gave the world “Romeo’s Tune,” which climbed to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980. Since then he has released more than 20 studio albums, earned a Grammy nomination for Any Old Time in 2004, and was inducted into the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame in 2006. He has never stopped working.
His most recent album, Daylight Savings Time, finds Forbert in a reflective mood as he approached his 70th birthday — the kind of record that looks back at where you have been without losing sight of what is still ahead. It features Aaron Comess of the Spin Doctors on drums and Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams’ guitarist) on guitar. There is also a new single, “The Things That I See,” available now through his official store.
