TRSH built their underground following on a debut LP and a single called “Dad Rock” that accumulated more than 15 million combined streams — quiet traction, the kind that fills intimate rooms before the wider music press has caught on. String Theory, the Springfield, Missouri quartet’s 2025 follow-up on Wax Bodega, pushes further, delivering what their label describes as “sub-two-minute bursts of intricate technicality” wrapped in “powder-keg energy and self-deprecating charm.” The Gone Fishin’ Tour brings that record to Rochester’s Montage Music Hall on Thursday, December 10.
About the Show
TRSH, which the band describes as “trash from the Midwest,” formed in Springfield in 2021, a group of childhood friends who came together, by frontman Derek Berry’s own accounting, as a “last-ditch effort” to realize their musical ambitions after a series of false starts. The quartet — Berry on vocals and guitar, Keiran Andrews on bass, Bowen Pennell on drums, and Gunnar Pennell on guitar — released their debut LP Kiss Me in 2022 and followed it quickly with Soporific, building their streaming presence through underground channels. String Theory, released September 19, 2025 on Wax Bodega, is their most recent full-length; Brooklyn Vegan described it as containing “transparently honest portraits of fucking up and falling short: bad decisions that felt right at the time, awkward apologies and late-night spirals.” The tracklist signals the tone: tracks include “Drown Me In A Bathtub Filled With Wingstop Ranch” and “Hyperpop Killed My Dog.” The band carries 38 tour dates in 2026, with the Montage Music Hall stop arriving late in that run. Live, TRSH is known for shows where “the gap between the group and their audience disappears,” with Berry working directly into the crowd. Three support acts are on the bill: Adjust the Sails, an Atlanta-based duo whose tagline reads “music by a sober guy that make you want to drink”; Dear Maryanne, a Boston Midwest emo act built around noodly guitar riffs and what they call “hyper-specific, yet universally relatable lyrics”; and Dear Cincinnati, a Tallahassee five-piece working in what they describe as the fifth wave emo scene.
Venue & Logistics
Montage Music Hall at 50 Chestnut Street in downtown Rochester is a 400-capacity club, part of the Finger Lakes region’s live music circuit and a scale that suits a band whose reputation is built on proximity to the crowd. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the show begins at 7:00 p.m. The event is 16-plus with ID; those under 16 are admitted with a parent or legal guardian, and no one under 12 is admitted.
