Vienna Teng writes songs the way an engineer might — every part load-bearing, nothing decorative — which makes a certain kind of sense once you learn she spent a first career writing code at Cisco before she left it, in 2002, for music. What she does with that precision is quietly radical: a body of work that drifts from folk intimacy toward electronic texture and back without ever losing the thread of a melody. At Caffè Lena, where her shows turn on between-song storytelling and audience-requested setlists, that craft finds a room built to hold it. She plays the Saratoga Springs listening room on Saturday, August 8; doors open at 4:30 PM, show 5:00–7:00 PM.
About Vienna Teng
Vienna Teng is a mezzo-voiced singer-songwriter who used to be a software engineer at Cisco — a detail that makes her music make more sense once you hear it. She left tech in 2002 after signing with Virt Records, and has spent the two decades since building a catalog that moves between folk intimacy and electronic experimentation without losing its thread. Her discography runs from Waking Hour (2002) through Aims (2013) — home to “Level Up,” “The Hymn of Acxiom,” and “Never Look Away” — and into her 2024 release We’ve Got You. She has opened for Joan Baez, Brandi Carlile, and India.Arie along the way.
Her Caffè Lena shows are known for in-between-song storytelling and audience-requested setlists, which makes the 110-seat format feel purpose-built for what she does. She is also a climate action advocate with over a decade of sustainability consulting; past visits to this venue have included free public Climate Action Workshops alongside the performances.
Venue: Caffè Lena

It is a room where the music is the whole point, and Vienna Teng’s style fits it like it was made for her. If you are driving in, give yourself time on the front end; August Saratoga is not a night to rush your arrival. Check the Capital Region concerts calendar if you want to make a full weekend of it.
