The cast of the Emmy-nominated Whose Line Is It Anyway? has spent years making improv look inevitable on television. The live version coming to Ulster Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 23 runs on real-time audience suggestions — no script, no safety net, and no two nights ever the same.
About the Show
Whose Live Anyway? puts Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis, Gary Anthony Williams, and Joel Murray onstage together for 90 minutes of fully improvised comedy and song. Everything comes from real-time audience suggestions: the cast builds scenes, characters, and songs from scratch, with no advance knowledge of where the night will go. The format draws from games made famous on the television series (Scenes from a Hat, Hoedown, Sound Effects, Questions Only, Props) alongside new material, all with musical direction by Laura Hall. As the tour’s own tagline puts it: “Like the TV show only LIVE!” Audience participation runs throughout; attendees may be asked to join the cast onstage.
The ensemble covers a lot of ground. Proops has been a Whose Line fixture since the original UK series, known for sharp verbal improvisation. Stiles brings physical comedy and precise timing, sharpened through years on The Drew Carey Show and Two and a Half Men. Davis brings musical improvisation and dead-on impressions of Christopher Walken, Keanu Reeves, and Jeff Goldblum, with a background that includes the cult animated series HarmonQuest. Gary Anthony Williams, the voice of Uncle Ruckus on The Boondocks, rounds out the cast with credits from Boston Legal and Malcolm in the Middle. Joel Murray, whose television work spans Mad Men and Shameless (and who is, yes, Bill Murray’s brother), completes the lineup. The show is all ages; some PG-13 language is part of the act.
The Kingston date falls near the end of a North American tour running from November 2026 through April 2027. The same cast plays the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the night before.
